Celebrant's Life: Celebrating Love & Life ❤️
Radio has been my greatest passion, but many of my listeners may not know that I also have a romantic profession: officiating weddings. This unique role brings balance, optimism, and a fresh perspective to my life. 🎙️
After spending the day in the newsroom, confronting the darker aspects of life—conflict, terrorism, war, and despair—I am fortunate to participate in weddings, which I view as the ultimate celebration of life. These ceremonies are filled with love, hope, happiness, and personal commitment. 💞
Being part of a couple’s wedding day is incredibly rewarding. As a journalist, I've had the privilege of interviewing influential figures—politicians, Nobel Prize winners, authors, and musicians—which makes my involvement in weddings feel like a natural extension of my work. Each wedding is unique, and every couple holds a special place in my heart, each with their own story to tell. 📖
I feel the anticipation as the groom gazes lovingly at his bride, and I witness the tenderness and excitement in their eyes during the vow exchange. The dynamics of families also intrigue me; while some in-laws may be less than thrilled, others radiate joy. I see the caring bridesmaids fussing over the bride and guests admiring the latest fashions, hairstyles, and shoes. 👗👠
Every bride is beautiful, whether she looks like a fairy-tale princess or wears a simple, elegant dress—sometimes even barefoot. I've learned that love operates in mysterious ways, and there is no secret formula for what draws people together. 👰
I have officiated weddings in countless locations: on boats, in pubs, parks, vineyards, beaches, remote bushland, atop cliffs overlooking the sea, even inside a swimming pool, and in luxurious hotels. My journey has taken me across Australia and even to Bali and Mumbai for commitment ceremonies. 🌍 (Check out my Indian wedding story in the “Nitza in the Media” section.)
Each wedding I officiate is magical. I vividly recall a full moon midnight ceremony, where the enchanting garden was lit by torches, and the barefoot bride embodied beauty and grace. The universe seemed to participate in our celebration. 🌕✨
Since 1995, I’ve officiated hundreds of weddings, yet each couple and ceremony remains special to me. It’s heartwarming when couples express amazement that I remember details from their wedding 20 years later. Every new couple represents a new beginning in their life journey together. 🌱
As a celebrant, I feel privileged to give back to Australia, the country that embraced me and my husband after we immigrated from South Africa in 1977. It is an honor to contribute to the most significant milestones in the lives of so many people.
